Suck the Heads for Flavor

mudbugsThe state university that I attend just finished an open house for high school seniors. For the second half of the week, the campus was filled with the absolute best that South Louisiana has to offer — Government Subsidized Crawfish Boils.

I smelled, then saw, one of the Cajun feasts on the way to my last class yesterday. Without hesitating for more than half a step, I made a beeline for the closest table and casually addressed two overwhelmed parents with a perfunctory explanation.

“I need to try one of these crawfish.”

“Excuse me?” their daughter asked incredulously as I picked up one of the boiled mud bugs.

“Oh,” I said in an apologetic tone. “You’re very welcome.”

And I made my escape before the confusion settled.

Was it wrong for me to take that crawfish? Probably.

Would I do it again? Definitely.

There’s something to be said about the fact that stolen food is always the best tasting. Our culture preaches that there is nothing sweeter than something that you earned yourself. But it also sings that the best things in life are free.

Stolen food is both earned and free. Which is why it tastes amazing.

And that’s the moral of the story.

Stealing food is fantastic. I totally lifted a plate full of Jason’s Deli sandwiches from a grad-student luncheon.

What’s mo’ morally wronger than stealing from people? Stealing from poor grad student people who I hate.

Also, are we too old to scope out the highschoolers?
