I imagine that God has a wicked sense of humor. If Jesus wept, then I imagine that he laughed as well.
Sometimes segues are hard to come by.
I’ve never really understood why most people are squeamish when they imagine their parents having sex. I am the oldest of four. I know where we came from.
When I was younger, my dad had a container of “Nivea Sex Appeal for Men” that he hid (but not very well) in his closet. I used to consider it a barometer for the Morgan family. When the bottle was empty, change was near!
By the time that my little(st) brother’s pregnancy rolled around, it was all was old hat to me. My little sister and my little(r) brother and myself were watching a movie in the living room. Mom and Dad walked in holding hands and proudly announced that they “had some very big news.”
Michael and Emily ran to Mom’s side to listen, but I immediately and dismissively said “Oh, you’re pregnant again” and went back to watching the Sound of Music. My sister was very excited to hear the news, but the word “pregnant” meant absolutely nothing to the four-year-old Michael.
“It means that I have a baby in my tummy.”
“Sure, Mom,” he sarcastically said, “and I have a giraffe in my tummy.”
For the next couple of weeks, Michael teased my mom about her alleged baby. Before too long, every innard of his body had become an animal. His shoulders were turtles and his arms were snakes.
“The baby’s kicking me!”
“The squirrel is biting me!”
When Benjamin finally was born, Michael held Benjamin in his arms and emphatically declared that “he’s really real!”
When God looks down on the us from Heaven, I imagine that we all look a bit like four-year-old Michael. We all have our own wit and distinct personalities, but at the same time know oh-so-very-little about the way things work.
No matter what happens in this life, I have a feeling that we’ll share a chuckle or two with the big G in the next. I’m just trying to make sure that my life is a tragic comedy and not a comedic tragedy.

As funny as it is unsettling…which is very.

Even though this is an old blog (I remember it from some time back), it still rings true. We’ve always gotta remember that we are “pool little ones” before God — but He’s a good dad. He loves to laugh with us, I’m sure. If laughter is an indication of joy, and God exhibits that to the fullest, then he must laugh — correct?

I wonder what God’s sense of humor is like. In my more depressed moments, I’ve cynically wondered if His first words we know of are a demonstration of a cruel sense of irony.
Perhaps we got the inflection wrong. Maybe He created this universe, with all of its epidemics, pestilence, civil wars, death camps, genocides, corruption, despair, and poverty and then threw a half-natured shrug into the air.
“Uhh. . . It is good?”
