mikeAlright, readers. In the interest of full disclosure, I should probably tell you that I am a rabid Tiger football fan. I had my first sentient thoughts in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I didn’t record the historic moment, but I’m willing to bet that it was about Billy Cannon. I still remember the day when my Dad told me that LSU did more than play football.

“Really? No way! What about the Saints? Can you learn things there, too?”

“No, the Saints just lose.”

Some of my most exhilarating memories happened in Death Valley. The place is pure magic. I can’t make you feel these emotions, but I can pull you through the symptoms. Start by walking through the campus’s myriad of tailgating tents, pulled forward by the enticing breath of anticipation and yet still burdened by the paralyzing weight of trepidation. Nothing is a sure thing. Slide through the pressing crowd gathered around the stadium, and let the excitement seep into your bloodstream through your flaring nostrils. Emerge through the entrance gate and be greeted by the sight of thousands of purple and gold shirts all gathered for the same purpose. The humidity is exceeded only by the temperature, and the temperature, oddly enough, is exceeded only by the humidity. It is hot, but as you hear the Golden Band from Tiger Land go through their opening routine, if you have a heart, it will start to beat faster, and it will not stop until long after the physical outpouring of passion, competition, and ambition has ended.

Although this is my second year attending LSU, this is the first time that I will be blest with student tickets. Me and my crew will make up a sizable chunk of the student section. If we all do something, then the rest of the student section will follow. If the student section follows, then the rest of the stadium will join us. We have a unique potential to build upon LSU’s already famous traditions.

Tonight I watched the rip-roaring blowout with about 30 of my friends. Every time we scored a touchdown, everyone gave out high-fives and sang the fight song. And then, after the more traditional traditions, we made one small addendum.

Tigers!
I would turn around and yell.
What is your profession?

And they would let the universe know.

LSU students, why not share this with all your friends on facebook? Can you imagine how exhilarating it will feel? Kickoff is September 8th.

If you have any other ideas for football ideas, post them in the comment section!

You know why we don’t have players like Billy Cannon anymore? Because we don’t give our kids legend-worthy names like Billy Cannon.

By the way, I have a good old-fashioned cowbell ready and armed. It can be my spear.
